All Things Pinterest!
Since its founding in 2009, Pinterest has become one of the 15 most popular social media platforms in the world. While its primary users are women ages 25 to 34, Gen Z has learned to use Pinterest to stay ahead of trends. Through boards and various types of pins, users can curate collections of interests ranging from mood boards to recipe ideas and everything in between.
Let’s start with the basic functions of Pinterest. The platform’s two primary features are pins and boards. Pins are pictures or videos with descriptions or links, similar to Instagram posts. Like other social media platforms, pins can be liked, saved, or commented on. One key difference is that pins can be saved to specific boards. Boards serve as a home base where saved pins are organized. They can be public, available to everyone, or private, viewable only by invitation. Each board can be themed and customized to display pins in a specific way, making it the perfect tool for creating a vision for a project or organizing ideas.
To find pins or get inspiration for boards, Pinterest users rely on the home feed, which displays personalized recommendations. Some of these recommendations are pins saved by friends or followers, while others match users’ specific interest areas. With home feeds, boards, and pins, users can craft their profiles to fit their vision.
Pinterest also offers special features, including Rich Pins, which automatically sync information from a website to a pin. There are three primary types of Rich Pins: recipe, article, and product. Recipe Pins include details such as titles, serving sizes, cooking times, ratings, and ingredients. Article Pins feature a description, author, and headline of a post. Product Pins, available exclusively to Pinterest Business accounts, enable shopping and display real-time prices, availability, and product details.
